Latest research from the Cambridge Center for Alternative Finance (CCAF) shows that despite a significant increase in the number of nodes, greenhouse gas emissions from the ETH network have decreased by approximately 99.97% since the switch to proof of stake (POS). CCAF said in a report Friday that the ETH network is currently emitting 2.8 thousand tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (KtCO2e) per year, “specifically, this is equivalent to the emissions of five flights round trip from London to New York, the annual emissions associated with the energy consumption of 450 UK households, or the annual carbon sequestration capacity of 270 acres of forest”.
